Creation of "The Big Picture" Art Series
October 2009
This ongoing feature at the Glowing Sands Gallery was created to provide artists and collectors a venue
not only for exhibition and sale, but also fellowship,
collaboration, and inspiration for those seeking it.
Looking to utilize our space and broaden beyond the previous
niche of offering strictly glass art, this series represents a
welcome change. From the inception, we envisioned
representing other artists working in different media, but first
wanted to establish who we were, and that was primarily a glass
gallery. We have formed good relationships with so many local
and regional artists, it makes sense for us to use our venue and
expand the scope of what we do.

note: At Glowing Sands, we're continually working to achieve a necessary balance
between being an exhibition gallery and retail space. It
is important to us to provide artwork in many forms, sizes, and price
ranges to suit the various needs of our patrons. Sometimes
people need to decorate an entire home, sometimes just a simple gift,
and we strive to accommodate.

Dene Participates in IGAA Invitational Exhibition Sept. 2-29, 2009
A new organization has formed called the Indiana Glass Art
Alliance (IGAA) in order to foster the creation and
proliferation of glass art by bringing the artists, collectors,
and enthusiasts together. Dene was one of 13 artists statewide
invited to participate in the 1st annual Indiana Glass Artists
Invitational Exhibition to take place in the Artsgarden, in the
heart of downtown Indianapolis. It will run from Sept. 2-29.
This exhibition will highlight the current state and wide range
of glass art being produced in Indiana. Several forms of art
glass will be represented, including hot blown/sculpted,
flameworked, kiln-formed (fused), cold-worked (cut and/or
assembled), casted, and lampworked jewelry.
Built in 1995, the Indianapolis Artsgarden stands 17 feet above
the intersection of Washington and Illinois streets and features
an eight-story, 12,500 square-foot glass dome. The $12 million
Artsgarden is linked by skywalks to the convention center,
hotels, Circle Center Mall, and will be connected to the new
Lucas Oil Stadium sometime in 2010. It serves as a
performance, exhibition, and marketing space for the
Indianapolis arts community, hosting 350 events annually.

Thank you to all who attended. Gathering in fellowship and
appreciation of the arts inspires us at Glowing Sands, and we
hope to have reciprocated that inspiration and entertained all
that came out for the event. Special thanks to
Taste...A Wine & Dessert House for providing their
services. Also thanks to Patricia E. Spaeth for playing the beautiful accordion music that created the
ambience of a stroll down a Venice street for the evening.

- Haynie's Corner #2 on National List
February 26th, 2008
ArtCalendar.com
named HCAD as #2 on the list
of Great Towns for Working Artists.
Art Calendar is
a well-connected and established entity that produces a magazine
and website by the same name. This is an honor for the city of
Evansville, and it clearly shows the potential we have.
The fact that this arts district showed well on a national stage
bodes well for our home-grown artists as well as those looking
to move and contribute to our community.
